Objective | The objective of this course is to provide participants with the ability to complete the following tasks: ・Performance enhancement of thermal power plants at refineries ・Feasibility study and project management of new-built or remodeled/revamped thermal power plants |
Main Topics | 1. Lecture: ・Overview of the Japanese energy industry’s approach to the electric power business ・Classification and characteristics of various power generation facilities and technologies owned by Japanese companies ・Technical factors affecting the competitiveness of thermal power generation facilities (fuel selection, power generation process, components, combustion temperature, metal materials, etc.) ・Operation management (monitoring and control, detection of abnormalities, maintenance work, etc.) ・Japanese famous EPC company (general evaluation of power generation technology) ・Lecture & workshop on project management for power generation EPC project 2. Site Visit: ・Condition monitoring system developer (supplier) ・Industrial steam turbine manufacturer (technical requirements for high-pressure pumps for boiler water supply) ・Refinery and/or LNG Terminal with thermal power generation plant ・Steam Trap producer (Steam system optimization program & risk mitigation) ・Stand-alone thermal power plant (ACC-type thermal power generation plant of the highest thermal efficiency) |
Qualification | Mid-level engineer in charge of power plants, satisfying the following requirements. 1. Academic background: University degree in engineering (priority given to mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineers) 2. Job experience: ・ 7–12 years for participants from Gulf countries ・ 10–18 years for other participants ・ In the job field of designing, operating, or maintaining thermal power plants at oil refineries or petrochemical plants, or new-built or revamping projects of thermal power plants |
